Oden, Blazers Fans Set to See Action
Tonight will be the first chance for Trail Blazers fans to see Greg Oden play in a game since he had knee surgery, as the center is scheduled to take part in a 40-minute scrimmage at the Rose Garden as part of the team's Wells Fargo Fan Fest.
Rose Garden doors open at 5 p.m., and the scrimmage is scheduled to start around 6. Parking and admission are free, but tickets must be picked up at a Wells Fargo Bank branch in Oregon or southwest Washington . Fans with a Wells Fargo credit card can also enter for free.
Oden, the No. 1 overall pick in 2007, sat out last season after undergoing microfracture knee surgery. He suffered a mild ankle sprain on the first day of training camp but has participated in the last two practices.
Coach Nate McMillan said Brandon Roy, who is recovering from Aug. 14 knee surgery, will also play in the scrimmage, which will be two 20-minute halves. The only players who will not play are Steve Blake (hamstring), Channing Frye (ankle surgery) and Raef LaFrentz (shoulder surgery).
"We want to work on execution, but we don't want to go out there and hurt anybody," McMillan said. "It will be a practice, but it will be fun, and we want to keep it somewhat loose for the players and fans."
