Greg Oden is 7ft. tall, which is eye catching alone, but that is not where it ends, Greg Oden is a sports entity in the mold of Moses Malone, Steve Cauthen, and Herschel Walker. Being a 7ft. footer makes Greg Oden special, it does not make Greg Oden a great basketball player, college basketball had 79 division 1 players measuring that height or taller last season and only one was even above average, by the time the 2006 season is upon us, nearly 1000 7ft footers will have participated in college basketball since 1992, the year Shaquille O'Neal (the last great player of that size) left LSU. One NBA General Manager who requested his anonymity said Greg Oden would have been chosen the No.1 overall pick over Andrew Bogut had Greg Oden been draft eligible, but a more telling quote comes from an NBA personnel director, he was told by a prominent college coach that Greg Oden reminded him of Patrick Ewing at this stage of Greg Oden's career, to which the Director replied "thats an insult to Greg Oden", so this is an example of many that states how Greg Oden is viewed in basketball circles and that Greg Oden's not thrilling people simply because hes tall.
