Greg Oden Passes on Olympic Program

Reigning national high school Player of the Year Greg Oden said Friday he has decided not to play on a squad being put together to scrimmage against the U.S. Olympic team.

Men's Olympic team boss Jerry Colangelo said he wanted the 7-foot Lawrence North center to be on what is being called the "select team," which will include top college players and scrimmage the team that will represent the U.S. in the World Championship this summer and in the Olympics in 2008.

"I'm not going to do it," Greg Oden said, citing possible event conflicts. Greg Oden said he would still be interested in playing in the Olympics. "That would be an honor," the Ohio State signee said. "But that's down the road. Let me play in college first."

Greg Oden and teammate Mike Conley have been selected to play in the Roundball Classic on Sunday, April 9, in the United Center in Chicago . They will be on a team coached by Mike Conley Sr.
